IIHS Investigates Safety Variations in 2015 F-150

It appears that Ford is manufacturing some of their 2015 F-150 models differently than others; that is, some of them seem to have additional safety features. These safety variations could become major issues for some. It is for this reason that they have begun new crash testing.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recently changed the way it conducts its crash tests, after having learned that Ford may have changed their safety specs for each of their pick-up cabs. They have included all of the different Ford models in these tests to see how they will respond. For the most part, they are focusing on the newest line of the Ford F-150’s crew cab. They, apparently, have some sort of a “blocker” by each front wheel to keep them from going into the cab in the event of a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had conducted these crash tests and they came back with rave reviews. However, the new corner test that they have been doing did not come back as well, but then again, all automotive manufacturer’s are having problems with this test. So while the F-150 fared very well in crash testing, some models may do better than others. I do believe though, that overall they should still be very safe trucks.
