F-150 Sales Remain Strong Through February

Tuesday, March 3rd 2015. | 2014 Ford F-150, 2015 Ford F-150, News

Through February the Ford F-150 is still the pickup truck sales leader, that despite the fact that Ford is in the midst of overhauling its 2nd F-150 plant in Kansas City, MO for 2015 production, Ford still has a healthy inventory of 2014’s to sell, along with the 2015 F-150 which is selling extremely quickly. I’m told the 2015 F-150 is currently selling 4 times faster than segment average. On top of that, for its 2014 models, Ford has not been forced to offer strong rebates, quite the opposite in fact, the average transaction price is up $1,600 over February of last year for the F-Series, for the F-150 specifically, avg transaction price is up $2,000.

A few other interesting stats; retail sales are up 7%, fleet sales are down 18%, this likely explains the rise in the average transaction price. Why are fleet sales down? Ford has been intentionally restricting them, as well as rebates in an effort somewhat curb demand while they complete the Kansas City plant. Finally, perhaps the most interesting: for February 21% of F-Series sold were the new 2015 Ford F-150. Ford should be producing the new F-150 at full-strength by June, at which point we should see a spike in sales as there likely will be quite a bit of pent up demand for the popular new truck.

Despite all that Ford is hanging on to its sales crown, but GM and Ram are gaining ground. But as we mentioned, Ford should make up for that come June though when production hits full capacity.
