Perhaps mistakenly, the horsepower number for the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is now known. It will have 450 horsepower. As Ford has promised it is indeed more than the 6.2 liter V8 that it replaces, which had 411 horsepower, 39 more horsepower to be exact. No word on torque yet, which is where I expect the next-gen EcoBoost 3.5 liter V6 to shine. The current V6 has 365 horsepower and 420 ft-lb’s of torque, where I am going with this is the fact that the torque number is significantly higher than the horsepower number, I am expecting something in the range of 500 ft-lb’s of torque from the gen II 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6. We don’t know this for sure yet, but I am thinking we should expect the same numbers for any F-150’s (not just the Raptor) that get fitted with a gen II EcoBoost V6 for the 2017 model year.

Another important aspect of the equation is the fact that the 2017 Ford Raptor will be 500 pounds lighter, thanks to its aluminum body. That is significantly less weight for the more powerful engine to move around! That coupled with its suspension, transfer case and frame upgrades means the Raptor should be more capable than ever and the original Raptor is already one hell of a capable truck. We are very excited for that Torque number! While 450 horsepower definitely is a very impressive number from a 3.5 liter V6, I have no doubt that the torque number will be even more impressive, that’s where these EcoBoost turbo’s really shine.
