Initially one might be inclined to say the all new 2015 Escalade has got to be much better than the extensively refreshed 2015 Lincoln Navigator (click here for a photo gallery). But I’m here to tell you that it’s not that simple. Even though the 2015 Navigator isn’t “all-new”, it got refreshed where it counts. There are three very good reasons why you should pick a Navigator over an Escalade, although in my opinion there are actually 4 reasons, but I’ll get to that later.

Reason 1, Power:
The first is Ford’s 3.5 EcoBoost V6 engine. This is part of that refresh that is so important for the Navigator. It’s what made it’s platform-mate the 2015 Ford Expedition so much better of an SUV over its predecessor and it makes the Navigator an even better SUV! Where in the 2015 Expedition this engine packs 365 horsepower and 420 ft-lb’s of torque, Lincoln has dialed it up for the Navigator getting an outstanding 380 horsepower and a heaping 460 ft-lb’s of torque! Yes, you read that right, fourhundredandsixty foot pounds of torque out of a stock 3.5 liter V6. We already knew this could be accomplished with tuning very easily, but Ford has done a tune of its own for the Navigator. We think Ford did this to further distinguish the upscale Navigator from the Expedition.

You might say the Escalade’s 6.2 liter V8 is just as good with its 460 ft-lb’s of torque. But you’d be wrong, because in the Cadillac that torque doesn’t come on until 4,100 RPM, where the Lincoln has its torque available much earlier on in the range at 2,750 RPM! It is my firm belief if you were to test drive these SUV’s back-to-back that the 2015 Navigator would put the bigger smile on your face.

Reason 2, Efficiency:
Having that much power is one thing, but what about efficiency? The Navigator wins here too, not by much, but it does have the Navigator beat. A standard length 4×2 Lincoln Navigator gets 16 city, 22 highway and 18 MPG combined. The Escalade does exactly 1 worse on all counts at 15 city/21 hwy/17 mpg combine.

Reason 3, Price:
There’s another number the Navigator has the Escalade beat at and that number is its price. A 2015 Navigator will start at $62,475, which has the Escalade beat by almost $10,000! The Cadillac starts at $71,695.

Conclusion (4th reason):
So while the Lincoln is pitting a refreshed Navigator against an all-new offering from Cadillac. Which admittedly may be more refined in some ways. The Power, efficiency and price advantage the Lincoln has over the Cadillac is very convincing to me. And in my opinion there’s a third reason to go for the Lincoln. It’s the same reason I’d pick and Expedition over a Suburban (or Yukon). That’s its looks (my fourth reason). This is a purely subjective item, everyone has their own taste. But in my opinion the Navigator is more sophisticated, understated and grown-up looking than its competitor; the Escalade. I think it looks too much like a cartoon of itself, too much chrome and too ostentatious.

But again, looking purely at the numbers: better power delivery, better efficiency (1 mpg) and a better price/msrp (almost $10,000 less. The Navigator makes a very good argument for itself over the Escalade.

Escalade is better than the navigator. Way more luxury better look. A powerful v8. Even though it gives 1mpg less I’d rather go with escalade. The price is well worth it!!

It may have a V8, but the Navigator’s EcoBoost V6 matches it in performance very well. As far as the looks, that’s a matter of opinion, I personally prefer the more sophisticated look of the Navigator. The Escalade is just too much in my opinion.
