2015 Ford Ranger (Global)

Monday, March 23rd 2015. | Ford Ranger, News, Reviews

The Ford Ranger has been updated for 2015. Sadly still not available in the USA, but the rest of the world is getting quite an awesome truck! The updated model features a facelift up front, an entirely revised interior and perhaps most interestingly, fuel economy has been increased by up to 18% according to Ford. The frame, suspension and engine options remain the same.

The 3.2 liter Duratorq 5 cylinder diesel still puts out 197 horsepower and 347 ft-lb’s of torque, but new are an updated exhaust gas re-circulation system, a start/stop system and an available longer final drive ratio. Again, all this means an mpg increase of 18% according to Ford.

A 2.2 liter diesel with 158 hp/284 tq and a 2.5 liter gasoline engine with 164 hp / 166 tq are also carried over and they’ll have some fuel economy improvements as well. But I sure would prefer that 5 cylinder diesel.

What about that new interior? The gauge cluster looks much like that of the 2015 Expedition here in the USA, which in my opinion is a good thing. It also features a Sync2 infotainment system to bring this truck fully up to date with Ford’s offerings across the lineup. It also features lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and a “driver impairment monitor”, what’s that you ask? It uses the truck’s front camera to determine your driving behavior and whether or not things are getting sloppy, it’ll warn you with gradually louder signals if it does.

What about off-road capabilities? The 2015 Ranger 4×4 has 9″ of ground clearance and is rated to wade through 31.5″ of water. It also has 28º approach and 25º departure angles, which is pretty impressive for pickup trucks these days.

Pricing will range from roughly $23,000 to $36,000. With the average transaction price up to $41,000 for a new pickup truck these days, I’d certainly welcome a truck priced in that range. I’d certainly also welcome the fuel mileage, which for the 2014 Ranger can be as high as 31 mpg, with that 18% improvement that will be 36-37 mpg, but I’ll believe that when I see it.
