2015 Ford F-150, will it be at Detroit Auto Show?
An unnamed source inside Ford has already started talking about the 2015 Ford F150. It doesn’t come as a complete surprise. With the recently released 2014 Silverado, Ford wanted to grab some media attention too. The Source touts a a 15-20% fuel economy improvement. So how will Ford accomplish this goal? The source says there will be major technological advancements under the hood. He goes as far as to call them “game-changing technology”.
Ford will start with major weight savings. Looking at every major component, like brakes, engine, axles and frame. All of these will likely need go on a diet.
Even more amazingly, there have been rumblings that we may see this truck at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS). Which seems crazy, but if you think about how competitive Ford and crosstown rival GM are, I wouldn’t rule it out. With GM releasing its new Silverado, Sierra and Corvette, we are sure Ford would love to do anything to steal the spotlight from them. A surprise visit from the 2015 Ford F-150 would sure do the trick. But I reiterate, this is pure speculation at this point.
With upcoming fuel regulations forcing higher and higher MPG’s we are also very curious how Ford will deliver the numbers in 2016 and 2018. Would they do something as crazy as putting the new baby powerstroke 3.2 liter 5 cylinder diesel in the F150 (it is currently slated for the Ford Transit/T Series).
