Truck makers, including Ford, have offered sliding rear windows for as long as I can remember. But Ford has come up with an industry first as far as this seamless slider. This system can be made with fewer parts (also fewer moving parts) and saves weight (4.5% lighter), something the 2015 F-150 is all about. Another distinct advantage is that it allows for a rear defrost throughout the entire window and that it reduces cabin noise vs. a traditional 3 piece system.

The new system is essentially a window inside of a window. It is weather sealed and is controlled via roof mounted switch in the cabin. Ford touts it offers the same size opening as it’s old system and that it also offers excellent pass-through ventilation. It was developed by Magna International, but couldn’t be employed cost effectively until they had a commitment from a large volume vehicle, like the Ford F-150.

The system will not be available on regular cabs, it will be a $350.00 option on 2015 XL and XLT models and will be standard on all other models. The system is expected to on 40% of new F-150’s sold.
