2015 5.0 Liter V8 Power Increase

Monday, February 16th 2015. | 2015 Ford F-150, News

For the 5.0 liter V8 engine in the 2015 Ford F-150 power has been increased by 35 horsepower and torque is up 7 ft-lb’s. This brings the 2015 F-150 V8 up to 385 horsepower and 387 ft-lb’s of torque. The 5.0 V8 made 350 horsepower and 380 ft-lb’s of torque in the 2011-2014 Ford F-150.

To get to that new power level Ford implemented a new intake manifold design, a new camshaft setup and new exhaust manifolds. All of this means that a 2015 Ford F-150 has a class-leading (half-ton segment) payload capacity of 3,300 pounds. That is seriously impressive! For reference a 2015 Chevy Silverado equipped with their 6.2 liter EcoTec3 V8 has a max payload rating of 1,700 pounds (and a 2015 Ram 1500 comes in at 1,635 with a 5.7 liter HEMI).

When it comes to towing the 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 is still king at 12,200 pounds, which remains at 365 horsepower and 420 ft-lb’s of torque for 2015. The 5.0 is not far behind tow-rating-wise at 11,100 pounds. This horsepower increase levels the playing field with the EcoBoost, but as I’ve always said, I have no trouble recommending either engine.
