2013 Ford F-150 Lariat Headlight

Ford is first to market with HID headlights for its refreshed 2013 F-150. They come standard on the Platinum and Limited editions and are an option on the FX2, FX4, Raptor, Lariat and King Ranch.  As you can see in the picture above they also add an F-150 logo detail behind the glass. These HID headlight bulbs come from a company by the name of Osram, it is a bulb they developed in 2007. They claim the Ford will benefit with a wider spread and better visibility in the foreground and down-road. These HID bulbs also generate light at a higher color temperature, which means the light is whiter, which I know from personal experience is a big advantage over standard bulbs. The thinking behind this is that it generates a light that is closer to daylight than standard bulbs are. These lamps also reinforce Ford’s commitment to being environmentally friendly, from the Osram: “Mercury-free HID lamps provide four times the lumens per watt of traditional halogen light sources and are more efficient at converting electrical energy into light.”

It has taken quite some time for HID’s to make it into pickup trucks, but we are happy to see Ford being the forerunner here as they have been for quite some time in other aspects of this competitive truck segment.
