2012 Ford Ranger (Global)

Monday, October 22nd 2012. | Ford Ranger, Reviews

The Ford Ranger was originally built to be a truck that was just as capable as a full size F-150 but cheaper to run. Since then the Ranger has evolved into a much better truck. Unfortunately the economical yet robust Ranger is no longer available in America. Ford discontinued the production of the Ranger on the 22nd of December 2011. To the fans of the Ford Ranger this was a painful blow, however from Ford’s point of view the decision made sense as the Ranger  was similar in size to the F-150 series trucks and it made little sense to have both the trucks available in the US. Instead Ford has brought forward the V6 F-150 as its economical truck in the US. Ford didn’t want to take away sales from its base F-150 or risk loosing the title of best selling vehicle in the USA.

Fortunately the Ranger has gone ‘global’ and is available in numerous countries worldwide. Not surprisingly, the 2012 Ranger has received 3 engine choices; a 2.2 liter turbocharged diesel, 3.2 liter turbocharged diesel and a 2.5 liter petrol engine. Each one of the engines will cater to the needs of people with different requirements. For the ones who need a truck that is economical to run yet can tow more than 7000 pounds, the 3.2 liter turbocharged diesel engine with 200 hp and 470 Nm (345 ft/lb) of torque will be more than enough. It is worth mentioning here that this engine will also be good for around 8.4 to 9.6 liter for every 100 kilometers (roughly 27 mpg). The other engine options offer even better mileage at the cost of towing capacity.

The Ford Ranger can be ordered with 4 wheel drive and with 2 wheel drive. Furthermore there are some trim levels to choose from as well that have different levels of luxury and space. Other features on the Ranger include manual or an optional automatic A/C, optional Bluetooth connectivity, optional rear camera with sensors, CD/MP3 player, ABS, several airbags, a choice between 16 inch or 17 inch wheels, keyless entry, hill-start assist, hill descent control and so on; the ranger has a well-equipped interior and several features to improve the driving experience of the person driving it.
